The Mexican fan palm is a palm tree that completes your garden in summer. This palm tree gives everyone that ultimate summer and holiday feeling. The Mexican palm tree originates from California and Mexico and is commonly seen in other parts of the United States. Fortunately, you don't have to go to America to admire these palm trees, because Bomenbezorgd can ensure that this Mexican fan palm can also be admired in your back garden!
Washingtonia robusta is the Latin name for this palm tree, and the name says it all: the tree is robust, mainly due to its trunk. The trunk consists of large old leaf stalks that are bronze-brown in colour. The leaves are fan-shaped and light green in colour.
Pruning the Mexican fan palm is fairly easy. When new leaves emerge from the centre, the older leaves are pushed outwards. These older leaves will start to droop and can then be cut away a few centimetres from the trunk. That is actually the only pruning required.
This palm should be watered two to three times a week during the growing season (April to September) when planted in a pot. When planted in the ground, the location should be well-drained and the tree should be watered three to four times a week during the growing season.
These palm trees can grow up to 20 centimetres in trunk height per year in the United Kingdom. The Mexican palm tree is currently being planted worldwide.
The Mexican fan palm can also be used as a houseplant. It is important that the Mexican fan palm gets enough sunlight indoors, and an occasional “breath of fresh air” from outside is also beneficial.
The total height is 250 to 300 centimetres.
