Grass seed for repairing your lawn

You can still do your best to maintain your lawn to the best of your ability, yet it can always happen that bare patches appear among the grass. Once some defects appear on the lawn, these often accumulate quickly until the grass reaches a point where even weed killers are no longer effective. Is your lawn plagued by bare patches? We understand that this is an annoyance, but luckily you can do something about it! You can restore your lawn with recovery grass within a few weeks.

What is repair grass?

Is your lawn a bit thin and would you like to fill it by sowing some extra grass seed? Or do you have yellow/ bald spots in your lawn that you want to repair? This can be done easily and quickly with repair grass. A mixture of repair grass largely consists of fast-germinating grass seed. These fast-growing grasses ensure that you have a dense turf again within a few weeks. Because the grass germinates so quickly, weeds have no chance to take up residence among the grass. After sowing repair grass, you will no longer have a lifeless lawn with bare patches, but a vital lawn that is worth seeing!

Restoring the lawn, how do you do it?

There are several ways to restore your grass. Of course, some things have to be done to transform your damaged lawn into a beautiful lawn by the book. Family lawns and sports fields are regularly played on intensively. It can then sometimes happen that the grass gets damaged as a result of these continuous stress factors. Even after scarification, the lawn has to be re-seeded in certain places. If a bald spot appears here and there, this is no reason to panic. After all, it is only a small thing to restore the lawn. Not only lawns, but also sports fields are often overseeded with repair grass. This grass seed lends itself perfectly to it, because sports fields with repair grass can be quickly renovated during the summer and winter break. Restoring the lawn is done effectively using the following three-step plan.

Sowing repair grass

In three relatively simple steps, you will have a presentable lawn again! How? You can find out here!

In case you haven't already done so: first of all, it is important to mow the grass. Make sure you don't cut it too short. An ornamental lawn, for instance, can be cut shorter than a play lawn. By mowing the grass, the grass plants get more growing points and the lawn gets a classy look.

After mowing, the idea is to remove the thatch from the lawn. A thatch layer is nothing but an accumulation of dead plant parts, roots and grass. This felt layer disturbs the water balance of the grass plant's root system. Remove the thatch using a scarifying rake or a scarifier. Fill the open spaces with soil or specific garden soil and level the ground.

Time to sow! Sow the repair grass evenly over the area to be cultivated. If necessary, use a spreader to ensure that the seeds are properly distributed. Sow the recovery grass both lengthwise and widthwise. If you have a pet, it is best to fence the newly sown lawn. This will allow the grass seed to germinate undisturbed. Lightly rake the grass seed after sowing so that the grass seeds come into contact with the soil faster. Water the lawn during dry periods with a garden sprinkler Once your lawn has regrown, you can improve the soil condition by spreading lawn lime Don't forget to fertilise the lawn annually with lawn fertiliser.

Restoring lawn in spring or autumn?

Restoring the grass should ideally be done in spring or autumn. As soon as the chance of night frost has passed for good and the soil temperature is high enough (at least 10°C degrees), you can start sowing grass seed. There is one exception: with Barenbrug S.O.S. Lawn Repair Repair grass seed, you can start sowing in early spring at temperatures as low as 6 °C degrees. This grass seed is coated so that the seed germinates at lightning speed. You can also repair your lawn in autumn. Especially in September and October, conditions are almost always (almost) perfect for sowing. On the one hand, the soil is still at a good temperature and, on the other, it starts to get a bit wetter outside again after the days get shorter. These weather conditions ensure optimal growing conditions. Ideal when you want to have a nice lawn just before winter sets in.
